Service provider Smartmatic Inc. confirmed that their system remains 100 percent safe for the upcoming automated 2022 elections despite breach allegations, March 14.
In a hearing, Atty. Cristopher Louie Ocampo informed the House Committee on Suffrage and Electoral Reforms that the Commission on Elections (Comelec) wholly governs the source code and software of the Automated Election System (AES), emphasizing that Comelec's servers and infrastructures are separate and distinct from Smartmatic's.
“The poll body never shares electoral data with Smartmatic, a fact that Comelec has affirmed and reaffirmed,” stated Ocampo.
As manifested by the National Bureau of Investigation and restated by the agency itself, there has been no hacking of Comelec's infrastructure.
"Please note, too, that Smartmatic’s system was not hacked,” added Ocampo.
